Book Reviews & Writing News
Please note: I am not currently open to book review requests with the possible exception of authors or publishers I already know. I’m sorry this may come as a disappointment, and I really want to support the indie writing community as much as I can but at the moment taking requests is beyond my capacity as a reader. However, I can say with my whole chest that if you have used generative AI in any capacity in the production or promotion of your “book”, your request would certainly be denied. Especially if you use AI to write the request (seriously wtf is wrong with you?)
Book Review: To Wonder and Starshine
A wonderful, whimsical fantasy and science fiction short story collection from Jendia Gammon. I thoroughly enjoyed Jendia’s previous short story collection, The Shadow Galaxy, the review for which you can read here. And so it was only natural to pick up To Wonder and Starshine. Here we have a collection of fairy tale like stories (some literally involving fairies) mixed with whimsical sci-fi...
Book Review: Moral Laundry
A poignant and somewhat scarily prescient short story collection from Conrad Altmann. I had the privilege of beta reading one of the short stories—Luminite Ascending—that made it into this collection. That one was brilliant, and at the time I didn’t realise Conrad was looking to make a collection. So when Moral Laundry came out, I was really looking forward to checking out the other stories...
Book Review: On Demon Wrangling and Interpersonal Relationships Between Weary Immortals
Gotta love long titles for short stories. On Demon Wrangling and Interpersonal Relationships Between Weary Immortals is certainly eye-catching and intriguing, and that’s what got me to pick it up. Also because I have read several of Rebecca’s short stories at this point and knew I was in for a treat. Vampyres and Witches make for strange bedfellows, and especially since I’ve been watching What...
Book Review: Bailuchien
A deliciously creepy yet cathartic dark fairy tale. Rebecca Crunden’s short stories and novellas are always a great time. I expected no different from Bailuchien, and I am pleased to say I was right on the money. Unfortunately at the time of writing this review, Bailuchien has been taken down temporarily, which makes posting the review to Amazon and Goodreads somewhat tricky (I literally can't...
New Book Announcement & Cover Reveal
If you’ve been following my social media posts for the last few weeks, you’ll no doubt have seen it teased that I got into the Halloween spirit and spent the latter half of October writing something spooky. I had intended to finish and publish it before the end of the month, but as always things took longer than I expected. But, not two days into November, I finished the first draft...
Book Review: The Shadow Galaxy
An excellent eclectic short story collection from J. Dianne Dotson. After finishing the Questrison Saga, I knew I’d be forever picking up J. Dianne Dotson’s books, because they’re a great lot of fun. I think there’s only one more book out that’s under the J. Dianne Dotson pen name: The Inn at the Amethyst Lantern, and from there on, her works will be published under the pseudonym Jendia Gammon.
